Posted by admin in Healthy Eating on August 14, 2010
In this jet paced society, we have to take care of our health very meticulously. The least we can do is to opt for healthy eating. This healthy food does not necessarily mean dieting, but the food you take should be balanced, rich in all nutrients and help you building immunity. Follow the simple steps mentioned below and you will better understand what you are eating now and what you should eat henceforth.
1. Follow the food pyramid – it is an excellent guide what you should eat. The 1992 food pyramid is still well accepted worldwide. It shows that majority of your portion should come from carbohydrates like bread, cereal, pasta and rice. In addition, it will be better to take whole grain bread and brown rice instead of polished cereals. It will provide enough fiber to maintain normal functioning of GI system. Then comes the fruit and vegetables group. You should take enough fresh vegetables like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, carrots, beans and capsicum. Fresh fruit or fresh fruit juice like apples, oranges, grapes, bananas are the best seasonal fruits. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries are rich in antioxidants which will help in reducing the free radicals from our body. Next comes the fish, poultry, meat, eggs and dry fruits like almonds, cashews, walnut etc. along with milk and dairy products like yogurt and cheese. Your diet should contain least amount of oil and fats. Again, the oil should be mono- or polyunsaturated fatty acid.

Without an organic dinner, surprisingly you may have eaten new foods.
Or a genetically modified food without even knowing about it.
That is because, in Canada and the U.S. the food industry and growers don’t have to let us know. With as much as 70% of the food now containing gmf or 30,000 products, I can only imagine we haven’t been told because we just might get a tad upset about it.
The genetically modified crops are supposed to handle drought better, or have more nutrients. Who knows, maybe one day you can get your daily dose of pharmaceuticals in your morning cereal.
Not really. You see, pretty much anything could be dreamed up and given a try. How about bananas that produce the human vaccine against hepatitis B? I found this promoted on the US government Human Genome Project site.
Or, what about Terminator seeds that are genetically altered to be infertile after the first harvest?
Currently the crops that are genetically modified are corn, soybeans, canola, alfalfa, tomatoes, wheat and cotton. Since we don’t need to be informed. And since the food processors may not even know, your families safest bet to healthy eating is organic food. Read the rest of this entry »
