Healthy Eating for your better life


In this jet paced society, we have to take care of our health very meticulously. The least we can do is to opt for healthy eating. This healthy food does not necessarily mean dieting, but the food you take should be balanced, rich in all nutrients and help you building immunity. Follow the simple steps mentioned below and you will better understand what you are eating now and what you should eat henceforth.

healthy eating1.    Follow the food pyramid – it is an excellent guide what you should eat. The 1992 food pyramid is still well accepted worldwide. It shows that majority of your portion should come from carbohydrates like bread, cereal, pasta and rice. In addition, it will be better to take whole grain bread and brown rice instead of polished cereals. It will provide enough fiber to maintain normal functioning of GI system. Then comes the fruit and vegetables group. You should take enough fresh vegetables like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, carrots, beans and capsicum. Fresh fruit or fresh fruit juice like apples, oranges, grapes, bananas are the best seasonal fruits. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries are rich in antioxidants which will help in reducing the free radicals from our body. Next comes the fish, poultry, meat, eggs and dry fruits like almonds, cashews, walnut etc. along with milk and dairy products like yogurt and cheese. Your diet should contain least amount of oil and fats. Again, the oil should be mono- or polyunsaturated fatty acid.

2.    Health food does not always mean that you have to cook a boring health recipe. You can find many delicious dishes in your healthy food recipes book. You can browse through internet and your knowledge will increase much. Most of them will say that boiling or broiling is a better way of cooking healthy recipes than frying or a sizzler. You should check the salad dressings before ordering it in a restaurant. Most often it is seen that salad dressing increases the calorie intake.

3.    Check calories – before taking food, you should know how much calorie you ideally need a day. Chalk out the menu keeping that in mind for a whole week in advance and separate the items in the freezer.  This way, you will save time and your menu will be packed with delicious healthy food recipes.

4.    Eat colorful vegetables – each colored vegetable is a source of a different vitamin. Your food should include as many colored vegetable as possible.

5.    Avoid fast food – although ‘convenient foods’ are easily prepared and consume much less time, these foods are notorious to increase bad cholesterol in our body. Try to avoid fast food as much as possible.

6.    Switch to water as your primary beverage. This way you will not only consume fewer calories, but it is beneficial for your health also.
For a healthy eating habit, you need some planning and a determination towards stick to whatever you have planned.
